As a small group of asylum\u00a0seekers headed\u00a0through a wooded area at the Canada-U.S. border crossing in Hemmingford, Que. on Canada Day, two clashing groups of protesters and supporters waited nearby.<\/p>\n

Storm Alliance\u00a0and La\u00a0Meute, self-described “ultranationalist” groups,\u00a0organized a demonstration in time for the nation’s 150th anniversary\u00a0at Roxham Road to\u00a0protest would-be refugee claimants crossing the border on foot.<\/p>\n

“We want to send a message, we want the government to send a message to anybody that wants to cross over illegally, unlawfully that there’s going to be people looking out for you,” said\u00a0Dave\u00a0Tregget, the national president of Storm Alliance.<\/p>\n

As dozens donned\u00a0black T-shirts\u00a0and patrolled the crossing Saturday morning,\u00a0they were met by a counter protest organized by a migrant advocacy group.<\/p>\n
