After retiring from her career as a supermodel and actress, Brigitte Bardot hit the headlines several times for opening her heart and expressing her horror about the role of Islam in French society. The internationally acclaimed superstar was convicted of what the Paris regime claims is \u2018incitement of racial hatred\u2019 no fewer than five times for comments that were critical of France\u2019s immigration and race-mixing policies.<\/p>\n

The French star of classic cinema again faces charges of \u2018hate speech and inciting racial hatred\u2019 following comments she had previously made about islanders on the French-ruled island of R\u00e9union.<\/p>\n

The charges came after Ms. Bardot agreed with anthropologists that the natives on R\u00e9union are, \u201caboriginals who have kept the genes of savages.\u201d She slammed their treatment of animals which includes the sacrifice of goats, dogs, and cats which are killed and beheaded, Il Giornale reports.<\/p>\n

Bardot sent her opinion on the practice in the form of a letter to the governing bodies of the island, which lies in the Indian Ocean near Madagascar. The actress condemned the ceremonies in her letter arguing that they were both demonic and showed sadism towards the animals.<\/p>\n

Upon receiving the letter, Amaury de Saint-Quentin, prefect of R\u00e9union, pressed the courts to indict the 84-year-old on charges of inciting racial hatred.\u00a0After being informed of the charges, Bardot countered by saying that she would continue to speak out against the abuse of any and all animals throughout the world.<\/p>\n

This is not the first time that the movie icon has stood up to state repression. Brigitte (pronounced Brit-ita) has been charged with inciting racial hatred in the past for her anti-immigration comments.\u00a0 In 1998 she lamented the loss of French identity and tradition due to the proliferation of mosques in her country \u201cwhile our church bells fall silent for want of priests.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bardot is well-known for her campaigns against animal cruelty and for animal rights which have included calls for video cameras to be installed in French abattoirs to prevent cruelty in which she claimed, \u201cthree million animals are sacrificed every day in France in shamefully barbaric and terrifying conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Most recently, Bardot expressed support for the Gilets Jaunes (Yellow Vest) movement and has defended against accusations that populist National Rally leader Marine Le Pen is a \u201cfascist.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very patriotic. I was raised by a father and a grandfather who fought for France and instilled in me a love of my homeland. I am not proud of what France has become today.\u201d<\/p>\n
