{"id":2259,"date":"2021-09-02T02:36:42","date_gmt":"2021-09-02T02:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/canadafirst.nfshost.com\/?p=2259"},"modified":"2021-09-02T02:38:12","modified_gmt":"2021-09-02T02:38:12","slug":"new-ethno-nationalist-party-in-quebec-promises-to-end-the-great-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadafirst.nfshost.com\/?p=2259","title":{"rendered":"NEW ETHNO-NATIONALIST PARTY IN QU\u00c9BEC PROMISES TO END THE \u201cGREAT REPLACEMENT\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>NEW ETHNO-NATIONALIST PARTY IN QU\u00c9BEC PROMISES TO END THE \u201cGREAT REPLACEMENT\u201d<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Formed by remnants of the province\u2019s anti-immigration scene, the&nbsp;<em>Patriot Party<\/em>&nbsp;promises to save Qu\u00e9bec from &#8220;cultural genocide.&#8221;Posted on&nbsp;August 26, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00e9bastien Roback (edited)<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nationbuilderthemes.ca\/antihate\/tr:q-85,c-at_max,w-1650\/pages\/394\/attachments\/original\/1630006187\/Actual_header.png?1630006187\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>A  Qu\u00e9bec-based political party named the\u00a0<em>Parti patriote\u00a0<\/em>(<em>Patriot Party<\/em>) is bringing their brand of ethnonationalism into the 2021 Canadian federal election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Billing itself as a nationalist and sovereignist movement, the party\u2019s raison d\u2019\u00eatre is to \u201cdefend the Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois people from anything that threatens its existence.\u201d They believe these threats, which are listed in their platform, have already led to the \u201cextinction\u201d of many Western nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLet us affirm ourselves against globalism, mass immigration, and illegal immigration instrumentalized by the enemies of our nation in order to make us disappear and\/or to reduce our collective power,\u201d reads the main page of the party&#8217;s crudely designed website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in 2019, the&nbsp;<em>Patriot Party&nbsp;<\/em>originally&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ricochet.media\/fr\/2643\/un-parti-ultranationaliste-quebecois-au-federal\">sought to participate in the previous federal elections<\/a>, but failed to register any candidates in time for its name to appear on ballots. This time, they have promised to recruit a slate of at least 20 candidates across Qu\u00e9bec running under the Patriot banner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nationbuilderthemes.ca\/antihate\/tr:q-85,c-at_max,w-1650\/pages\/394\/attachments\/original\/1630004059\/seb_2_antihate.png?1630004059\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their platform also refers to multiculturalism as a \u201cperverse postmodern doctrine aiming for the cultural genocide of the qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois people,\u201d and emphasizes the Patriots\u2019 opposition to the so-called \u201cGreat Replacement\u201d &#8211; a White nationalist concern that says the white population of Western countries are being deliberately replaced through immigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On social media, the Patriot Party\u2019s concern with the \u201cintegration\u201d of Muslims &#8211; and especially Muslim women &#8211; is on full display. In dozens of Facebook posts, the party and its officials share pictures of veiled women along with captions like \u201cIntegration, a major problem in Qu\u00e9bec,\u201d eliciting aggressive responses from its supporters, who refer to Muslims as \u201cparasites\u201d and as \u201cplagues.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transgender women are similarly targeted throughout their content. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though their recent arrival on the political scene means they are unlikely to will win any seats in the upcoming election, electoral gains might not be the Patriot Party\u2019s primary objective. On social media, the party has made repeated calls for donations in order to print signs to be place \u201call across Qu\u00e9bec\u201d &#8211; including in ridings where the party is not yet fielding candidates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nationbuilderthemes.ca\/antihate\/tr:q-85,c-at_max,w-1650\/pages\/394\/attachments\/original\/1630004344\/seb_3_antihate.png?1630004344\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"372\"><br><em>This image was shared on the Patriot Party\u2019s social media accounts. Make a donation to the Patriot Party.\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of these signs has the words \u201cNo to mass immigration,\u201d complete with a woman making a \u201cstop\u201d hand gesture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elections Canada currently lists the&nbsp;<em>Patriot Party<\/em>&nbsp;as eligible for registration, meaning it met the requirements to become an official party, but has yet to run a candidate in an election. This is likely to change on the candidate registration deadline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> LEADERSHIP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Patriot Party<\/em>\u2019s founder, Donald Proulx, is a longtime anti-immigration activist who is well-known for his participation in protests outside Lacolle, Qu\u00e9bec, a border town, in opposition to an influx of asylum seekers. During one of these Roxham Road demonstrations, Proulx shared the microphone with members of\u00a0<em>La Meute<\/em>, as well as with Ontarian activist Kevin Goudreau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before taking interest in federal politics, Proulx attempted to found a municipal party in Montr\u00e9al, in opposition to then-Mayor Denis Coderre. In a Facebook post, Proulx denounced the latter\u2019s views on immigration, as well as his perceived silence in the face of a supposed wave of violence in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Montr\u00e9al, anarchists (antifas) are disturbing, censoring and even using violence against qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois nationalists &#8230; and what are Coderre and city council doing? Nothing! On top of staying silent, they have declared that Montr\u00e9al is a \u2018sanctuary city,\u2019 a refuge for illegal immigration. Enough!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.nationbuilderthemes.ca\/antihate\/tr:q-85,c-at_max,w-1650\/pages\/394\/attachments\/original\/1630004518\/seb_4_antihate.png?1630004518\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"512\"><em>Donald Proulx, posing in front of a Patriot Party sign. Source: Facebook.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though he remains very active as its president, Proulx has since handed over the reins of the Patriot Party to Carl Brochu, a 51-year-old videomaker and ex-high school teacher best known for his role in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/xaviercamus.com\/2018\/08\/20\/diane-blain-nouvelle-coqueluche-de-lextreme-droite\/\">planning a stunt<\/a>&nbsp;in which he, alongside members of a far-right group named&nbsp;<em>Front Patriotique<\/em>&nbsp;(Patriotic Front) snuck into a&nbsp;<em>Liberal Party of Canada<\/em>&nbsp;event to heckle Prime Minister Trudeau.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brochu was announced as the party\u2019s new leader on June 12, 2021, during an event attended by members of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/montreal-antifasciste.info\/en\/2019\/06\/27\/vague-bleue-the-last-stand-of-quebecs-far-right-soldier-wannabes\/\"><em>Groupe S\u00e9curit\u00e9 Patriote<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(<em>Patriot Security Group<\/em>), a group known for providing its security services to nationalist  groups like the\u00a0<em>Soldiers of Odin<\/em>\u00a0during demonstrations.
