(CBC)<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p>Marine Le Pen, the controversial leader of France&#8217;s far-right National Front, is scoffing at Canada&#8217;s plan to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees with open arms, calling it &#8220;madness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There. I&#8217;ve said it. Madness,&#8221; she said in an interview with <em>the fifth estate<\/em>. &#8220;There are other ways to do it,&#8221; she went on, adding that the &#8220;danger is real \u2014\u00a0false passports.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A real passport given to Islamic fundamentalist in the influx of immigrants to enter the country with the intent to commit terrorist attacks. It&#8217;s a danger. And that&#8217;s what happened in Paris,&#8221; she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>Le Pen \u2014\u00a0roundly criticized by many in France for what are seen as thinly-veiled racist positions \u2014\u00a0sat down with t<em>he fifth estate&#8217;<\/em>s Mark Kelley as part of a special report that airs tonight called &#8220;Aftermath: How Paris Changed the World.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/fifth\/episodes\/2015-2016\/aftermath-how-paris-changed-the-world\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Watch <em>the fifth estate<\/em>: How Paris changed the world <\/span><\/a>tonight at 9 p.m., 9:30 NT on CBC TV<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/paris-attacks-french-elections-national-front-1.3328435\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">After Paris attacks, France&#8217;s National Front pursues its campaign of fear<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/alan-kurdi-family-canada-refugees-1.3338703\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">&#8216;Boy on the beach&#8217; family coming to Canada: fifth estate<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Le Pen is currently doing well in French public opinion polls, particularly in two regions in the southeast and the depressed north, where she is vying to be president of the area called Nord-Pas de Calais in regional elections set for early December.<\/p>\n<p>Le Pen and her party appear to have received a boost by voter concerns about security after the attacks in Paris on Nov. 13. But her anti-immigrant stand worries many French voters,\u00a0and France&#8217;s situation when it comes to immigration, multiculturalism and Muslim asylum seekers in particular is much different than Canada&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>France has one of the largest Muslim\u00a0populations on the continent already, one that has felt marginalized and excluded from\u00a0employment and education opportunities and has been the scapegoat of the far right, including the National Front and its supporters.<\/p>\n<p>In Calais, where she is running, Le Pen scares people like Hachim\u00a0El Jazouli, a Muslim born in France of Moroccan descent and a longtime city resident<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I speak French better than maybe some French people,&#8221; El Jazouli said. &#8220;I really try to make my country better. But for the Le Pens, it is not enough, because I&#8217;m not white.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Stop the migrants, Le Pen says<\/h2>\n<p>El Jazouli said that when Le Pen targets migrants living in what is known here in Calais as &#8220;the jungle,&#8221; a large refugee camp, he feels she is also targeting people like him.<\/p>\n<p>But he says he refuses to think most French people are like Le Pen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I see in my neighbourhood, my neighbour and all the people they love me and I love them,&#8221; El Jazouli said. &#8220;Because we are French citizens.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.cbc.ca\/1.3340217.1448646519!\/fileImage\/httpImage\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/original_620\/calais-refugee-camp.jpg\" alt=\"Calais-refugee camp\" width=\"100%\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Those seeking asylum in France often end up living in massive refugee camps,<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>like this one known locally as the &#8216;jungle,&#8217; situated near Calais. (CBC)<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Le Pen said her solution to the migrant crisis is to kick them out and seal the borders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The influx of migrants must be stopped,&#8221; Le Pen told <em>the fifth estate<\/em>. &#8220;We know Islamic fundamentalists have infiltrated this flux of migrants to slip by unnoticed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In the refugee camps, Le Pen&#8217;s campaign of fear is unsettling those who have made it this far. They are afraid that after getting so close to their destination \u2014\u00a0for most here that would be England \u2014\u00a0they may soon be kicked out of France.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Limousin is an aid worker in the Calais camp. She knows that keeping migrants in the camp isn&#8217;t a solution, but she also says that Le Pen&#8217;s solution of kicking migrants out isn&#8217;t the answer, either.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yeah, but where? Send them home? You can&#8217;t send them home when there is bombing, like in Syria and Iraq,&#8221; Limousin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Send them home, we are just bombing them. How do you want to send them home? Say, go back to your country because we don&#8217;t want you here? I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s a solution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Canada&#8217;s screening process<\/h2>\n<p>Experts say posing as a refugee\u00a0would be an inefficient way for a person to enter Canada\u00a0due to the many security\u00a0screenings required to be granted asylum.<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations Refugee Agency\u00a0interviews\u00a0individual asylum applicants, and flags about two per cent of them for resettlement.\u00a0Canada has sent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/canada-refugee-plan-women-children-families-1.3330185\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">500 officials overseas who individually interview<\/span><\/a>\u00a0those asylum applicants flagged to them by the UN before they can travel to Canada.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/security-top-priority-refugee-plan-1.3333634\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Security at &#8216;very top&#8217; of priorities in refugee plan, says Ralph Goodale<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/europe-eu-migrants-1.3305088\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">Europe refugee crisis: EU says 3 million more migrants could arrive by end of 2016<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Both the UN and Canada&#8217;s screening processes include questions about the person&#8217;s travel history and whether\u00a0or not they have been part of a military, militia or other armed group.\u00a0Biometric\u00a0data is also collected.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re planning an attack, particularly a major\u00a0co-ordinated\u00a0attack abroad, the last thing you&#8217;re going to do is count on one of your attackers getting through the refugee and migrant streams,&#8221; security expert Wesley\u00a0Wark\u00a0said in a recent interview with CBC.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, France does not have a plan similar to Canada&#8217;s.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/world\/europe-eu-migrants-1.3305088\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #0066cc;\">European Union leaders continue to argue<\/span><\/a>\u00a0over what to do with the more\u00a0than 700,000 people who\u00a0have come to the 28-nation bloc\u00a0seeking sanctuary or jobs so far this year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>COMMENT<span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: large;\"><strong>Why are we accepting the father of the boy on the beach?
