The Canadian government faced online backlash after posting an image of the Canadian flag modified in Pride colours, triggering a community note that pointed out the image violated official flag guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government of Canada\u2019s official X page posted<\/a> an image on Sunday with a Canadian flag in Pride colours on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortly after, the image was flagged with a community note pointing out that the Government of Canada\u2019s own website<\/a> states the national flag \u201cshould not be written on or marked in any way, nor be covered by other objects.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rules also state that the Canadian flag \u201cmust not be modified.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original post is filled with disapproving comments, many stating \u201cthat\u2019s not my flag\u201d or that the feds promoting an altered version of the flag was \u201cdisrespectful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDiversity is not a strength, it does not promote cohesion once you go beyond a certain point and then causes social fractures,\u201d one user on X said<\/a>. \u201cHow about being a bit more mindful of all citizens?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One user said<\/a> socialist leaders of the Bolshevik revolution, which led to the Soviet Union, would be \u201cproud\u201d of the government\u2019s cultural deconstruction methods in social messaging.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some, though the minority on the social media post, said they were grateful that the government posted an image that they viewed as representing love and acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its important to let those know who might be unsure of their preferences know the rest of the world is acceptance of their preferences,\u201d Andrew Reinsma said<\/a> on the post. \u201cA great day for it.
