TPS\/HO<\/small><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By <a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.citynews.ca\/author\/john-marchesan\">John Marchesan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Posted July 18, 2025 5:43 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Updated July 18, 2025 6:40 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toronto police are searching for a 14-year-old young offender in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 71-year-old woman in North York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investigators say Shahnaz Pestonji had just finished buying groceries in the Parkway Forest Drive and Sheppard Avenue East area near Don Mills Road and was loading them into her vehicle when she was attacked just after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pestonji was rushed to a local trauma centre, where she was later pronounced dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe now believe this was a robbery that escalated into a deadly attack,\u201d said Det. Matthew Pinfold on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police say 14-year-old Kymani Wint of Toronto is wanted for second-degree murder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police have obtained judicial authorization to identify Wint, which will expire on Wednesday, July 23, at 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wint is described as approximately five-feet-seven, 135 pounds with a skinny build, wearing black pants, a black hooded sweatshirt with \u201cNew York \u2013 555\u201d written on the front in white lettering. He was last seen wearing a balaclava-style face covering with his hood up, and carrying a black satchel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Related:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/toronto.citynews.ca\/2025\/07\/18\/worst-time-of-my-life-family-grieving-the-loss-of-mother-and-wife-in-unprovoked-stabbing\/\">\u2018Worst time of my life\u2019: Family grieving the loss of mother and wife in unprovoked stabbing<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinfold says Wint is known to move around the city using the TTC and was last seen around noon on Thursday at Kennedy Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince the homicide took place, police have conducted an extensive search \u2013 canvassing door-to-door, using canine units and drones, and reviewing surveillance footage from the area \u2013 and we continue to follow every investigative lead,\u201d said Pinfold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe believe this individual is dangerous, and the public should not approach him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinfold urged Kymani to turn himself in, adding, \u201cWe are actively looking for you and we will find you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shelley Carroll, the city councillor who represents the area, said she was \u201cheartbroken\u201d to learn about the attack.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a devastating and senseless act of violence, and my thoughts are with her family, friends, and everyone in the community who has been shaken by this tragedy,\u201d she said in a statement shared on social media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carroll said support was available for local residents and businesses impacted by the \u201cviolent\u201d and \u201ctraumatic\u201d incident.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto police identify 14-year-old wanted for murder in stabbing of Shahnaz Pestonji By John Marchesan Posted July 18, 2025 5:43 pm.
