Steven Blaney, candidate for the leadership for the Conservative Party of Canada, today proposed measures to counter illegal immigration.

While illegal immigration is on the rise in Canada as a result of recent events, it is important to take action to curb the phenomenon that could affect the efficiency of our immigration system and impact on the security of our country.

Here are the three (3) immediate steps proposed by Steven Blaney:

  • Increase resources at the border of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to improve Canadian border control and expand the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) immigration and follow-up investigations;
  • Reviewing immigration laws to make it less easy for illegal migrants to apply for refugee status after illegally entering the country;
  • Work in partnership with cities and provinces to combat illegal immigration.

Steven Blaney also wants to ensure the territorial integrity of Canada by harmonizing the rules for the treatment of refugees at the border. Data obtained from the Canada Border Services Agency speak for themselves: asylum seekers brought by the RCMP to Quebec’s three main entry points have more than quadrupled in three years, and the trend could be accentuated. It is time to act before the phenomenon takes on uncontrollable proportions.

Quote

“Given the potential magnitude of illegal crossings between border crossings, it is imperative to harmonize the rules governing the reception of refugees from the United States.”
