Warning: This video contains distressing details | The Pine Creek First Nation in western Manitoba is one of the first in Canada to excavate a site near a former residential school. CBC’s Wawmeesh Hamilton explores how the community is paving the way for others as it faces the tough revelations that come with searching for answers===================================================================ALSO:Excellent article including many photos of work being done ther eDECIDING TO DIGhttps://www.cbc.ca/newsinteractives/features/pine-creeks-searchThis Manitoba First Nations Band actually proceeded with an excavation after going through the Ground Penetrating Radar shtick. In this case they  focussed on the Church basement  and sent in an archeological team to excavate and determine if any human remains existed.
THEY FOUND????  NOTHING ..NO BODIESexcept “anomalies like rocks etc. There are numerous cemeteries that contain White and Indigenous  graves that have been abandoned, weeds growing and markers rot away etc.
Contrast this with Kamloops Band $12+ Million given and no excavation performed while alleging the site has 215 UNmarked graves.William Lake Band was given $8 MILLION and no excavations. However…No accountability.
I was impressed with the Manitoba band. They accepted the findings.( but in all likelihood embarassed.)However..they may be trying to expand the search according to one report. The Feds have allocated a fund of $320 Million to these FN groups to dip into.Regardless…this case should set a precedent that ALL First Nations bands that go through this Unmarked grave accusation/ investigation exercise. Funds$$$  provided ONLY when a plan submitted and excavation starts. Grifting off the dead is quite deplorable.
Otherwise,  another precedent is set  ie other FN bands will realize..OOOOPPS..we better grab $$$ asap… and NOT dig.Stir and repeat.
