When asked whether Japan will welcome more immigrants, Japanese Finance Minister Katayama said, “We are not imagining a situation where our society will be like European countries.”
She also spoke about when she was in France for two years and noted that even though immigrants from former French colonies speak French, there was still a feeling among French people that they are of a different culture, like how Japanese people feel they are also of a different culture.
